The 2016-2017 IBC season will begin on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Returning members have until the end of play on September 21, 2016 to renew their membership.

Fees

Membership fees will remain the same as last year. For more information, please see https://ibcbadminton.com/club-information/membership/.

Waiver

Please complete and submit the 2016-2017 waiver with you when registering. The waiver can be downloaded at https://ibcbadminton.com/wp-content/uploads/Waiver_IBC_2016-17.pdf.

If you cannot make it to register

You may appoint a proxy to register for you. FULL payment must be received by end of play on September 21. A shoe tag will be given to you when you PERSONALLY hand in a completed waiver. All players MUST have a shoe tag in order to play.

Adding immediate family members to an existing membership

If you wish to add an immediate family member to your membership, let us know when registering. Your request will be added to a “waiting list” for membership. Accepted add-on members (if any) will be announced after Sept 21, subject to the maximum capacity for IBC, which is 100 members. Add-on membership fees and/or waiver amendments will be due by 8pm on Sept 26, 2016.

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering as an IBC executive (member-at-large) or at the EDBA, we would love to hear from you. Both IBC and the EDBA are driven 100% by volunteers.

IBC’s play time tonight (June 15) and June 17 are cancelled. Unfortunately, we never received a cancellation notice from the city/school so these cancellations were not anticipated. Sorry for the inconvenience.

To promote badminton within the Edmonton seniors community, the EDBA is hosting a badminton free play session for seniors 55 and over with details as follows:

Time: June 4, 2016 (Saturday) from 2 to 4 p.m.
Venue: W.P. Wagner High School (6310 Wagner Road, Edmonton)
Cost: No charge; EDBA will also provide shuttles

Please note that this free play session is open to the Edmonton public including EDBA members but ONLY for 55 and older players. Thanks.

Effective immediately, for the remainder of the season, Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees are welcome to drop-in at IBC on any scheduled play night at no cost.

To be eligible, drop-ins must:

  • present a valid driver’s license with a Fort McMurray address to be eligible
  • agree to abide by IBC Rules & Etiquette

IBC will impose a cap of 8 on drop-ins. First come first served.

In support of Corporate Challenge Edmonton’s badminton event, the EDBA is making the following court time available for Corporate Challenge badminton team practice:

Session N: Sunday May 1, 2016, Noon to 2 p.m. (Full; wait-list only; no drop-in)
Session 1: Saturday May 7, 2016, 2 to 4 p.m. (Full; wait-list only; no drop-in)
Session 2: Saturday May 28, 2016, 2 to 4 p.m. (Full; wait-list only; no drop-in)
Session 3: Sunday May 29, 2016, Noon to 2 p.m.


Cost is $5 per person for each session. EDBA will also have NCCP qualified coaching available to provide teams with tips and suggestions for improving their games. Teams are to provide their own shuttles. Alternately, teams can purchase one tube of Mavis 300 (same type of shuttles to be used in Corporate Challenge badminton) from the EDBA at the practice session at $14 (retail price including GST at Edmonton stores is about $15.74). Limit one tube per company team per session.

If your Corporate Challenge badminton team is interested in booking practice court time, please e-mail info@edba.org with the name of your company, sessions of interest and the estimated number of team players attending the practice. Payment is collected at the door.

Court bookings are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Teams dropping in without pre-registering cannot be accommodated if there are no available courts for the session.

Dear IBC Members:

On behalf of the IBC Executives, I would like to invite you all to join us to celebrate another great season.

The IBC Annual Dinner will take place at 6:30pm on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at P & L Restaurant (10425 100 Ave, inside the Comfort Inn).

The event is free to all individual members and for up to 2 members of a family membership. Additional family members or non-members can attend for $25.

If you would like to attend, please register using the sign up sheet posted each night at the gym entrance. A deposit ($10/member, fully refunded on the night of the dinner) is required. Full payment for additional guests or family members is due at registration. Please pay Rosalyn Ngan.

The deadline to sign up for the dinner is Monday, May 2, 2016.

The EDBA Open will take place on May 14 and 15 at W.P. Wagner School (6310 Wagner Road).

The EDBA Open has a minimum age requirement of 16 as of January 1, 2016. This year they have added two more age categories, “55+ to 60” and “60 +” to the A, B, C level.

Registration deadline is 5:30 p.m. on April 27, 2016.

EDBA Adult Free Plays for April

Dates:
Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm
Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm

Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm

Location:
WP Wagner (6310 Wagner Rd NW, Edmonton, AB)

Open to adults (ages 18 and above) who are current members of a public EDBA member club. There is no cost to attend. Please bring your own shuttles and wear non-marking, indoor court shoes. Attendees will be required to sign in and state their club affiliation.

Matches are limited to two games after which the players must vacate their court and wait for their next turn to play. Games must follow the Rally Point System (21 points). Singles games are not permitted if there are others waiting for an available court.
